TradeMalta, a helping hand for small companies

Within the context of the global financial turmoil which has impacted small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular, the Maltese Government has joined forces with the Chamber of Commerce in order to lend a hand to SMEs seeking to take their business outside the country. The first step will be to create several trainings and courses for companies to understand what internationalization means and the steps to take order have a successful experience. The first phase of the project consisted in a panel discussion where 20 Maltese companies have heard about the experiences of local businesses already operating abroad.

The next step is creating a new program, called Go Global, through which Maltese SMEs will receive assistance from the Government.

The agenda of the Go Global Program

At the moment 20 companies have enrolled in the Go Global Scheme through which Malta Enterprise will provide them with a report showing them their current export capabilities, followed by a training on the instruments needs to internationalize their products or services and financial assistance at the end of the course.

In order to join the program, a company must have an export revenue below 20% and less than 250 employees. In the beginning, Go Global addresses companies operating in the manufacturing, services, IT, research and development, engineering and the life sciences industries. Retail franchise projects can also be included, if certain requirements are met.

Malta Enterprise will co-finance 50% of the market research studies and capacity building projects in the limit of 10,000 euros.
